The Young Carers Project
The Ealing and Hounslow Young Carers Project is delivered by Brentford FC Community Sports Trust and offers support and advice to young carers aged between 8 and 18, who live in the London Boroughs of Ealing and Hounslow. Young carers are children and young people who look after someone in their family who has an illness, a disability, or is affected by mental ill-health or substance misuse. Some young carers may undertake high levels of care, whereas for others it may be frequent low levels of care. Either can impact heavily on a child or young person.
The Young Carers Project provides information and advice, fun activities in school holidays, weekly youth clubs, school support and one-to-one support. The project is a chance for the young carers to have a break from their caring role and to meet other young carers who are in a similar situation. We aim to make each club a place where young carers can have fun and support each other in a safe environment.
Statutory and voluntary agencies can make referrals for a young carer to be linked into the programme and also self-referrals by family members or the young carers themselves are encouraged.
